Circles — Trust-Based Social & Real-World Connection Platform

A trust-based social platform engineered to help people discover connections, make plans, and meet up in real life through shared interests, mutual connections, and real-time proximity.

Project Overview

Circles is a premium social platform designed to help people discover, connect, and make real-world plans with friends and friends-of-friends. Unlike traditional social platforms that rely on strangers and algorithmic feeds, Circles builds discovery around existing relationships, mutual connections, shared interests, and real-world activities.

The platform combines a mobile-first social experience with proximity-based discovery, group planning, private messaging, venue discovery, subscription management, referral mechanisms, and a public Reliability Score that encourages members to follow through on their plans.

The Challenge

Social platforms often struggle with the disconnect between online interactions and dependable offline follow-through. Traditional solutions incentivize superficial engagement rather than meaningful real-world connections.

Key challenges identified:

Social Discovery Lacks Trust

Traditional social platforms make it easy to discover strangers, but they often lack the trust and context needed for meaningful real-world interactions. Circles needed a fundamentally different approach where people could discover others through existing relationships and mutual connections.

Turning Online Connections Into Real Plans

The platform needed to move beyond profiles, feeds, and conversations by making it easy for people to actually plan activities, choose venues, invite others, confirm attendance, and meet offline.

Spontaneous Socialising

People often want to do something but don't know who is nearby and available. Circles needed a simple way for members to signal that they are free without sending multiple messages or broadcasting their availability publicly.

Trust & Accountability

A social platform built around real-world meetups needs accountability. Late cancellations and no-shows can damage the experience for everyone, creating the need for a transparent Reliability Score and attendance-based trust system.

Our Solution

Noukha Technologies engineered a connected social ecosystem that brings people, places, activities, communication, and trust into one cohesive platform.

01. Trust-Based Social Graph

Circles allows members to connect through existing relationships, mutual contacts, invitations, or people they meet through Circles. Members can privately classify their connections by familiarity and relationship duration, which influences discovery and matching.

Key Capabilities:

  • Familiarity and relationship duration classification
  • Discovery powered by mutual contacts & trusted links
  • No-stranger matching boundary preserving user comfort
  • Granular connection privacy controls

02. Smart Social Discovery

The Discover experience combines People and Places, helping members find relevant connections, shared interests, nearby venues, and potential activities instead of relying on a conventional algorithmic social feed.

Key Capabilities:

  • Dual People & Places discovery engine
  • Context-aware activity suggestions and venue matching
  • Shared interest filters with mutual connection context
  • Feed-free intentional social interaction model

03. Live Moments

Members can publish temporary, spontaneous plans such as last-minute cinema trips, spare tickets, food plans, or local activities. Live Moments are visible only to eligible connections and automatically expire after a defined period.

Key Capabilities:

  • Time-decaying ephemeral invitations
  • Scoped visibility restricted to eligible circles
  • Instant RSVP and group assembly
  • Automated circle formation and contextual group chat

04. Reliability Score

A public Reliability Score rewards members for showing up and applies penalties for late cancellations and no-shows. This creates accountability and makes trust an integral part of the platform rather than simply a profile attribute.

Key Capabilities:

  • Transparent, points-based attendance scoring
  • Automated penalties for last-minute cancellations and no-shows
  • Host & attendee reciprocal verification
  • Incentivizes dependable real-world commitment

Implementation Approach

To ensure privacy, instant responsiveness, and high-frequency real-world coordination, we architected the system around five foundational pillars:

Mobile-First Architecture

Designed around a responsive, premium mobile experience with offline-first behaviour and optimistic UI interactions, allowing key actions such as confirmations and messaging to update immediately while synchronising with the backend in the background.

Trust & Graph Engine

Uses a graph-oriented approach to model first- and second-degree relationships, mutual connections, connection strength, and discovery eligibility. This allows the platform to generate relevant social discovery while maintaining its no-stranger principle.

Real-Time & Ephemeral Data

Live Moments and "I'm Around" availability are treated as temporary, high-frequency data rather than permanent social content. An in-memory data layer is used for these experiences to support fast proximity-based interactions.

Secure Location Processing

The platform uses foreground-only location access for "I'm Around" and obfuscates coordinates into approximate 0.5-mile areas. Exact user coordinates are never exposed to other members.

Managed Real-Time Messaging

Circle chats and direct messaging use managed chat infrastructure with offline message queuing, read receipts, typing indicators, and automated chat archiving.

Key Benefits

01

Trusted Social Discovery

Members can discover people through existing relationships and mutual connections instead of interacting with unknown strangers.

02

Easier Real-World Planning

From discovering an activity to selecting a venue, inviting people, confirming attendance, and chatting with the group, the entire planning journey happens within one platform.

03

Greater Accountability

The Reliability Score creates visible social accountability around attendance, cancellations, and no-shows, encouraging members to follow through on plans.

04

Privacy-First Proximity

Approximate location, reciprocal visibility rules, and temporary availability states allow proximity-based discovery without exposing precise locations.

05

Venue Opportunities

Partner venues can become part of discovery, Circle creation, and spontaneous meetup recommendations, creating an additional commercial ecosystem around real-world activity.

Results & Impact

The Circles platform establishes a new model for social interaction focused on real-world participation rather than passive engagement:

Trusted Connections

The platform creates a controlled social graph where discovery is driven by mutual relationships, connection strength, shared interests, and real-world interactions.

From Discovery to Meetup

Circles brings discovery, planning, communication, attendance, and post-event connection into a single connected workflow.

Accountability by Design

The Reliability Score turns attendance and behaviour into an ongoing trust signal, helping create a more dependable community.

Privacy-Conscious Social Discovery

Proximity-based features allow members to discover nearby opportunities while maintaining approximate location and controlled visibility.

Conclusion

Circles reimagines social discovery around trust, proximity, shared interests, and real-world experiences.

Instead of another platform built around followers, endless algorithmic feeds, and strangers, the solution creates a connected ecosystem where people can discover trusted connections, find something exciting to do, create small-group plans, communicate effortlessly, meet in person, and build stronger relationships over time.
